Grades 9, 10

This course teaches students how to study and learn more effectively and efficiently, emphasizing organizational skills and the development of a positive attitude and successful mindset. Techniques taught to students: goal-making and time management, learning styles, listening skills, note taking, studying and test taking skills for both objective and essay tests, memory skills, reading strategies, term paper time-savers, public speaking and interpersonal communication, stress management, resume’ creation and interviewing skills. This class is highly recommended for students with poor study habits and organizational/planning skills, and/or poor test taking performance.

**D71 - Communicating - Deaf
Grade 12
½ credit
This course provides a foundation of both sign language skills and finger spelling skills to facilitate communication with the hearing impaired. Pertinent issues are discussed to broaden an understanding of the hearing impaired and bring deaf awareness to light. Relating to the deaf culture including non-manual grammatical markers, signing, fingerspelling, classifying and the technology related to deafness.
Student will be responsible for NWTC tuition and book fees.

**D73 - Introduction to Education Careers
Grade 12
½ credit
This course is designed as an exploration of the profession of teaching and an introduction to the foundations of American Education. The material covered will include information for students who are considering teaching as a future career or for those who simply wish to learn more about key educational issues. One component of the course will be a hands-on observation type field experience. This course is taught by UW-FV via ITV.
